Chevrolet Debuts Nine-Speed Automatic Transmission

Chevrolet will debut the Hydra-Matic 9T50 nine-speed automatic transmission on the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu.  This transmission will also be available on the 2017 Chevy Cruze Diesel and the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.  By the end of 2017, it is expected to be an option on 10 GM models.

The nine-speed automatic transmission will be paired with the available 2.0L Turbo engine on the Malibu.  This will create an optimal situation including improved fuel efficiency, improved performance, and refinement.  The nine-speed automatic transmission has small steps in gearing which provides smooth, almost unnoticeable shifting.

The 2017 Chevy Malibu has three engine types available depending on the trim level selected. These are:

* 1.5L 4-cylinder DOHC engine with turbocharger, DI and Variable Valve Timing (VVT)

* 2.0L 4-cylinder DOHC engine with turbocharger, SIDI and Variable Valve Timing (VVT)

* 1.8L hybrid 4-cylinder DOHC engine with SIDI and Variable Valve Timing

There are two transmission types to choose from, also based on the trim level chosen. These are a 6-speed automatic electronically controlled transmission with overdrive or an automatic hybrid

The suspension for this vehicle provides a smooth and durable ride. The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu offers an independent, MacPherson strut-type with dual-path mountings, specifically tuned coil springs, direct-acting stabilizer bar (hollow); hydraulic ride bushings. The rear suspension is a four-link independent rear; hollow stabilizer bar.
